Black Swordtail
Xiphophorus hellerii
The Black Swordtail is a striking color morph of the well-loved Swordtail species, Xiphophorus hellerii. This sought-after variant features a stunning black to deep blue body coloration that adds dramatic elegance to any aquarium.
Males are easily recognized by their sleek fins and the signature elongated lower tail fin that resembles a sword. Although females lack this sword-like extension (as seen in the second photo), their rich, dark coloration is equally captivating.
Black Swordtails are hardy and adaptable omnivores. They readily accept a variety of foods, including high-quality flake food, freeze-dried bloodworms, tubifex, brine shrimp, and even algae-based options.
