Neyaguala Cichlid (Macaw Cichlid) Overview
Also known as the Macaw cichlid, the Neyaguala cichlid (Hypsophrys nicaraguensis) is a striking and sought-after species from Central America. Renowned for their vibrant coloration and relatively peaceful demeanor compared to other large cichlids, they are a favorite among aquarists. However, they can become territorial, especially during breeding periods.
Appearance & Coloration
Neyaguala cichlids are admired for their vivid coloration, which includes shades of yellow, red, and blue.

Males typically display a yellowish-orange body and may develop a noticeable nuchal hump as they mature.

Females tend to exhibit brighter blue and red tones and are often more colorful overall.
